THE Vitara – one of SunWheels’s favourite compact crossovers – has been updated, with an even bigger range of features but without an increase in price.
According to Suzuki, the Vitara proved to be a sales hit, with over 1 700 units sold since it was introduced here in 2015.
Design changes the new Vitara include a redesigned front, new alloy wheel options and a revised rear style with new LED light clusters.
The front has a new clear headlight cluster that flank a reshaped grille with horizontal slats, a larger Suzuki badge and a new bumper.
Suzuki has also upgraded the interior with more premium finishes and soft-touch materials. The GLX seats are covered in new but luxurious material covers.
The driver instrument cluster in the GL gets a 3,5-inch monochrome, touchscreen LCD display. The GL+ and GLX get a new 4,2-inch full-colour, touchscreen LCD display.
The screens show driving range, average speed, outside temperature and have smartphone and Bluetooth connections, built-in Android Auto and Apple CarPlay features.
The full-colour screens also access the reverse camera image.
The Vitara is big on safety so all versions come with seven airbags – including an airbag for the driver’s knees, electronic stability control and ABS with emergency brake assistance.
Powering the Suzuki Vitara is the familiar 1,6-litre petrol engine that is fitted to either a five-speed manual or six-speed automatic gearbox – buyer’s choice.
As before, Suzuki will offer buyers the choice of either a front-wheel drive or AllGrip – Suzuki’s intelligent, adaptive, high-tech all-wheel drive system.
The upgraded Vitara will be sold with a 200 000km/five-year vehicle warranty and a four-year/60 000km service plan.
