SAMSON Maduna from Dobsonville, Soweto, was a member of the Joburg Municipal Pension Fund from 2009.
He borrowed R123 000 from the fund.
When he retired in 2016, his statement showed a deduction of R214 382,71 instead of R123 000.
He asked the SunDefender for help.
WHAT I DID
I spoke to fund administrators, NMG Benefits.
SOLUTION
NMG Benefits’ Zelma Potgieter said the money Samson withdrew was to be paid back in monthly instalments, which didn’t happen. The R214 382,71 deduction included interest due to non-repayment.
