THUGS ran away empty handed after bombing an ATM in Acornhoek near the railway line in Bushbuckridge, Mpumalanga

It was like a Hollywood movie as a gang of thugs yielded guns in the air while they drove up the street and firing some shots while their accomplices broke into the A1 Food Store.

This according to one of the witnesses who asked not to be named saying the bombing happened in the early hours of Thursday morning at around 2am.Luckily, no one was killed or injured.

The source told the paper that they saw a heavily armed gang of thugs speeding in a bakkie when they started shooting along the main street towards the shop.

“The ground was shaking from hailing bullets as the gang shot from the speeding bakkie. The next thing we heard a loud explosion.  We had to run and hide for our lives,” she said. Police spokesman Brigadier Leonard Hlathi said about five to eight suspects attacked the securities at the A1 Food Store.

“They shot about six bullets and cartridges were found on the ground. The suspects broke the gate and the roll up door of the shop. They then entered inside and bombed one safe which didn’t have money. They attempted the big safe, but it couldn’t be blown up before they fled the scene empty handed. No one injured and suspects are unknown yet at this stage,” said Hlathi.
