PATIENTS AND NURSES ROBBED AT GUNPOINT!

accreditation

TWO nurses, four patients, a driver and assistant from Limpopo were robbed of their valuables at gunpoint on Thursday, 4 March while on the way to hospital in Tshwane.

Patients were being moved from the Nkhensani and Maphutha Malatji hospitals in Mopani to George Mukhari Academic Hospital when the incident happened.

The driver stopped to check the wheels after a tyre puncture.

Health spokesman Neil Shikwambana said when the driver stopped to check the tyre along the N1, not far from Mantsole Weighbridge, he apparently found spikes on it. Two unknown men armed with guns appeared and started searching everyone. They took their bank cards, money, cellphones and other belongings.

“The vehicle was carrying four patients, two transferring nurses and two emergency services drivers,” he said.

“Fortunately, one patient had a cellphone the thugs didn’t take. The crew managed to report the incident to the police, who then came to the scene.

“The patients were transported to George Mukhari by scheduled transport from Warmbad Hospital.”
