COPS were left with no base on Monday, 11 January after being kicked out of their offices.

Management of the Nafcoc Building in Soshanguve, Tshwane, locked the railway police out for apparently not paying rent.

One officer, who wanted to remain anonymous, said the incident was very embarrassing.

“We were kicked out. It’s sad because some of our belongings were left behind,” he said.

“I’ve never seen another entity telling the police what to do. We were forced to shut up and be polite.”

He said they were not even allowed to take their weapons from the safe. They had to leave documents, furniture and cars behind.

“This is sad. We didn’t pay rent and the sheriff came with a court order saying we had to close our offices. We’ll be locked out unless we pay the almost R750 000 owed in rent.”

The cop said the sheriff made it clear they could get their property back after the money owed was paid.

The SunTeam noticed on Thursday, 14 January police were all at Mabopane Train Station, including top officers who were usually based in the office.

A member said: “We’re now working at the station in the parking area. We don’t have any offices or stationery. We’re just standing with no direction.”

Colonel Athlenda Mathe said there were discussions between the police, public works department and management of the building.

“The main fact is the safety of our members and ensuring service delivery, which hasn’t been interrupted. Alternative accommodation has been arranged.”
