FORMER Ekurhuleni Metro police’s Constable Mazulwandile Makaula (49) was on Friday, 10 September, sentenced to six years direct imprisonment for corruption by the Vosloorus Magistrates Court.

According to Captain Ndivhuwo Mulamu, Makaula was on duty in May 2018 when he stopped a motorist in Vosloorus, Ekurhuleni, during a random stop and search.

“After searching the vehicle, Makaula demanded R300 from the driver, threatening to impound the car without valid reasons. The driver gave Makaula R150 in cash for his car not to be impounded.

“On the same day, Makaula further demanded the outstanding balance from the motorist to release the vehicle,” Mulamu said.

She said the matter was immediately reported to the Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation unit in Germiston for further investigation.

A sting operation was conducted at a shopping complex in Vosloorus where Makaula was arrested in possession of the R150 entrapment cash. He was found guilty of corruption in June.

“Makaula was sentenced to six years direct imprisonment and also declared unfit to possess a firearm,” Mulamu added.
