THEY laughed at her when she said she’d write a book but they’re not laughing now!
Security guard Zimasa Mfontolwana (32) said she told people her life hasn’t been easy and she could write a book about it.
The book, Konke, Kodwa Ubomi Bami was published by Memezela Press Publishing Company.
Zimasa, originally from eZithenjini in Mqanduli, Eastern Cape, has been a security guard since 2012 and works at the local government offices in Bisho.
She and her four siblings were raised by their mum after the death of their father and she dropped out of high school after falling pregnant.
The book reads: “I struggled clothing my son and fed him any food I could find”.
She later became a domestic worker and then a security guard.
Through Facebook, Zimasa was introduced to a publisher who helped to release her book. She said they started working on the book a few months ago.
“This has been my biggest dream. I’m still in shock that it has happened.”
She said she chose to write the book in Xhosa because of the people in her village. “Those are my roots,” she said.
It will also be translated into English and made available at book stores.
