THOUSANDS of workers affiliated to the South African Federation of Trade Unions (Saftu) have began gathering at the Workers' Library and Museum in Newtown Johannesburg.
The march will start at the Gauteng Premier’s office in Johannesburg, then it will move to the provincial Department of Health and then end at the Labour Department.
SAFTU members are marching, demanding that government must take action to end the country’s crisis of unemployment, poverty and inequality.
The trade union says South Africa is the most unequal country in the world, in which 10% of the population earn more than 50% of the household incomes while 20% earn less than 1.5%.
However, National cop’s spokesman Brigadier Vishnu Naidoo warned the marchers to behave themselves.
Naidoo said law enforcement agencies nationally have been advised of their roles and responsibilities particularly in respect of crowd and traffic management.
