Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi has approved the renaming of the Hoërskooll HF Verwoerd to Rietodale Secondary School in the north of Tshwane.
Panyaza said on Monday that his mission in this world is to reverse everything “Verwoerd” has done to the education system.
“Today, we formally approved the renaming of Hoërskool HF Verwoerd to Rietodale Secondary School. My mission in this world is to reverse everything this man called Verwoerd has done to our education system. Others names like Jan Smuts will also fall,” he said.
Hendrik Frensch Verwoerd was the leader of the National Party, he served as the last prime minister of the Union of South Africa from 1958 until 1961.
His goal in founding the Republic of South Africa, thereby leaving the Commonwealth, was to preserve minority rule by white Afrikaners over the various non-white ethnic groups.
These included Bantu, Khoisan, Coloured and Indian people, who were the majority of South Africa's population.

You have already changed my primary schools name and I was so proud to have come from that school. I have a history with that school and it was changed from Verwoerd to Midvaal primary for what?

"Through conquest and promise of cheap labor the British interwove our Boer republics with irreconcilable sovereign black republics. The only chance the Afrikaner has of survival is to win back their own sovereign republics" - Hendrik Verwoerd
