MOTSWEDING FM listeners are up in arms!

This is because the contracts of their favourite presenters won’t be renewed.

They claim the Tswana language is being attacked as the new presenters don’t speak as well as the old ones.

Yesterday, they protested outside the SABC offices in Mahikeng, North West. The protest was led by listeners and the Oupa Matla Foundation.

Listeners, including Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi, took to social media to complain that station manager Katlego Mokhele seemed to have personal issues with certain presenters. They said they wanted him to resign.

The listeners said they would formally march to the station on Thursday.

Oupa Matla said: “We’re disappointed by the sheer arrogance displayed by SABC North West and Motsweding FM towards employees, listeners and Tswana-speaking people.

“The SABC and Motsweding FM must pursue the skills audit process.”

SABC spokeswoman Neo Momodu said: “The SABC is in the process of reviewing contracts of freelance on-air talent on all its platforms, in line with industry best practices.

“This is informed by various factors such as revenue, audience performance of specific shows and return on investment.”

She said they were engaging with all freelance talent on their contracts.
