Twelve of the continent’s freshest entertainers are set to raise the bar this year when the Bassline Fest returns to celebrate Africa Day on 25 May, 2019 at Johannesburg’s Constitution Hill.Bassline Fest is following festival trends and going cashless this year, with Howler cashless platform, enabling a safer, easier, faster and more secure option to purchasing tickets and buying food and drinks at the Fest itself.
The Africa Day celebrations are an exhilarating musical experience aimed to showcase African music, culture and diversity. Under a 25-year celebratory theme, the Bassline Fest will not only celebrate Africa day, but also a milestone 25 years of democracy in South Africa, as well as the celebration of BASSLINE’s 25 anniversary.

In a departure from the tradition of holding the inauguration at the Union Buildings, the event will take place at Loftus Versfeld Stadium. Hosting the inauguration in a stadium, the largest in the City of Tshwane, will allow for greater public participation in this important national event.
It is symbolic that the inauguration will take place on Africa Day, as it affirms government’s commitment to advancing the African agenda and to strengthening ties between South Africa and its neighbours.

25 MayNIROX Sculpture Park will celebrate Africa Day with the finest in African storytelling.On the line-up there is an amazing child-author Stacey Fru, Bandile Sikwane with two new books, a historian - Nomalanga Mkhize - Yamkela Tywakadi reading from the new Sibahle Dolls Collection book series, much-loved Tracy-Lee Easthorpe with 'Obnoxious Naledi', and the ever-popular Refiloe Moahloli with her new book 'Yes Yanga'.
For entertainment there will be an interactive gumboot dancing session around midday, so make sure you whip out those Wellingtons so we can put them to good use.
Children of all ages are welcome. Bring your blankets and camp chairs, and join us for a storytelling feast in the Cradle of Humankind.
