They say there’s no such thing as bad publicity.
Not long ago, musician, Masixole Matshaya, also known as Ed Harris, was making newspaper headlines after accusing gqom artist NUZ Queen of stealing his song Laze Lavuka Idimoni Lami, which features Sdudla Somdanso.
In his case, the publicity actually served to help his career. The Khayelitsha-based singer has gained many fans and has become the first artist from Cape Town to join Kalawa Jazmee Records.
Ed Harris told SunBuzz: “These are exciting times. I’m about to release a music video for the Laze Lavuka Idimoni Lami track.”
Ed Harris said joining the Kalawa Jazmee empire seemed impossible.
“Thanks to my team, Sdudla Somdantso and Pearl, we are growing as artists.
“We are a winning team because of our brilliant collaborative efforts,” said Ed.
DJ Oskido’s record label is looking to bring back its glory days after kwaito heavyweights such as Professor left the stable to focus on their own projects.
Ed Harris said he plans to achieve great things.
“I want to make history. I need to push hard and make my city proud,” he said.
DJ Oskido said Ed Harris made it impossible to ignore him.
He said they made it their job to get his attention.
“He is the new school and he brings some fresh ideas to the music industry,” said Oskido.
“Kalawa Jazmee has never produced a Cape Town-based artist before. This is our first gem out of the Cape,” said Oskido.
Ed Harris said there is no secret formula to his success.
“It’s all about patience, creativity and hard work. Talent comes afterwards. If you have a team that has your brand and its growth’s best interests, you will succeed.
“I am happy that my move to Kalawa has also opened doors for Sdudla Somdantso and Pearl,” said Ed Harris.
