CHARITY begins at home for Isibaya actor Nhlanhla Mdlalose, well known for his role as Bongani.
He will again host a three-day tournament at KwaMaqanda, Ladysmith, KZN, through his foundation Nhlanhla Percy Yazi.
The Nhlanhla Mdlalose Soccer tournament was established after Nhlanhla was asked for R10 by a former soccer player.
“My heart was broken and my wife asked me to start a soccer tournament to give hope to youngsters. This is my way of investing in them and taking them off the streets.”
He said the tournament had been running for three years and he had seen many changes in the youth.
“We develop them from a young age. Soccer activates their minds and stops them from doing drugs and other bad stuff,” said Nhlanhla.
He said the tournament would run from 24 to 26 December at the KwaMadlala and Mzimela playgrounds.
“With previous tournaments everyone could play. This year we have age restrictions, strictly for under 23 years old.”
He also said they had invited soccer scouts to attend. “The first prize is R25 000 plus a soccer jersey. Second prize is R12 000 plus a soccer jersey and third prize winner will go home with R8 000 plus a soccer jersey,” said Nhlanhla.
Entrance is free and spectators will be entertained by Khuzane Mpungose and DJ Gift. Nhlanhla said he would not have been able to do it without his sponsors.
