A FIT and healthy madala came close to death after he contracted Covid-19.

Strike Mejelo (72) from Phokeng near Rustenburg, North West, said he hoped his terrifying brush with death should cause people to think twice about how they react to the threat of the virus.

He said he got infected when he attended a family member’s funeral.

He told Daily Sun he had no underlying health conditions when he contracted the virus in January.

“The virus is painful. I struggled to stand and walk on my own. I experienced severe coughing,” he said.

Strike said steaming with lengana, bluekom and Vicks helped him a lot.

He said he felt blessed to be alive. “I’ve realised that a lot of people take the virus lightly. However, you will believe it’s real when it hits you,” he said.

The madala urged people to avoid crowded places, to wear masks and wash their hands.
