VETERAN ACTOR SAM PHILLIPS HAS PASSED AWAY!

Veteran actor, director and music composer Sam Phillips has died.

The 72-year-old actor was best known for his role as Odwa on SABC1 drama series, Soul City.

His death was confirmed by his daughter Mpumi Phillips.

Mpumi told Daily Sun they are saddened by his passing.

“It is with our deepest sorrow that we inform you of the passing of Sam Phillips. He passed away in the early hours of the morning, 16 January, in hospital.

“He will fondly be remembered for his smile and efforts within the South African arts, but mostly for being a fearless inspiration and example,” she said.

His acting agency Gaenor Artiste Management released a statement and said they are devastated by the passing of one of their own.

“For us, he will take a place on our mantle as one of the greatest actors and he will always be part of The Gaenor Artiste Management team.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and children,” said the company.

Since then, tributes and heartfelt messages of condolences have been pouring in.

Online magazine, Actor Spaces, also bid farewell to the talented actor.

“Farewell to actor, writer, music composer, director and producer ntate Sam Phillips. A real jewel, rest well ntate.”

TV Mzansi also commented and said: “Our deepest condolences to the family and colleagues of the veteran actor, writer and director Dr Sam Phillips.”
