TRIBUTES have been pouring in for late TV and radio presenter Bob “The Jammer” Mabena.
According to family spokesman Winston Maimane, the 51-year-old struggled to breathe on his way home from hospital on Monday and asked to be taken back.
Mabena later died of a heart attack.
Winston said the Power FM presenter would be missed by many.
Veteran broadcaster Dan Mongale worked with Mabena in Mahikeng, North West in the 80s.
He said: “When he was at Radio Bop, I was at Radio Tswana.
“He was talented and appreciated a lot of things about me and vice versa.
“This was very unexpected. I hadn’t spoken to him in two months.”
Old friend Phemelo Koikoi said he first met Bob in 1987.
“I met him when he was a club DJ at LaFreak before he joined Radio Bop.
“In that club he liked playing pop and bubblegum music,” said Phemelo.
Alpheus Koonyaditse, known as Alphi K to radio fans, said hearing the news was devastating.
“Last week he paid a moving tribute to the late Edgar Dikgole,” he said.
He said Bob started working at Bop Broadcasting a few months before he did.
“Both of us were still young and eager to learn,” he said.
“He was part of the talented crew that included Ben Dikobe, Vincent Maseko, Zandile Nzalo and Glen Lewis.”
TV and radio presenter Criselda Kananda, who worked with Bob at Kaya FM and Metro FM, described him as a unique person. She said he lived life to the fullest.
