SOAPIE actor Buhle Maseko couldn’t celebrate his achievements because of his perceived weight gain.

The 28-year-old Skeem Saam actor told Daily Sun: “I’ve now decided to change my image and live a healthy lifestyle.

“I decided to do something because I don’t want it to depress me.

“Because of the pressures of showbiz and me being in a top show, people used to make rude comments about my weight.”

Buhle’s waist size used to be a 34, but he managed to cut it down to 32, and his target is a size 30.

From 99kg, he now weighs 68kg and hopes to get down to 55kg.

He said one of the reasons he lost weight was because one needs to align with a bran to get big gigs.

“If you really want to eat in this industry, you need to look a certain way to attract work.

“I now eat better and watch what I put into my body.”

The actor, who plays Nimza in the SABC1 soapie, said losing weight wasn’t easy.

“It has done wonders for my self-esteem,” he said.

“I no longer worry what people say about how I look because I’m doing it for myself.”
