Mamba and Gorbachevs' shooting brought a 5.4 million viewership for Scandal!

SCANDAL! saw a huge turnout of viewers after villains Mamba and Gorbachev killed each other two weeks ago.

According to e.tv, their deaths drew over 5,4 million viewers, the highest viewership the soapie’s ever had.

In the heated episode Gorbachev (Khulu Skenjana) shot Mamba (Simo Magwaza).

Mamba didn’t die instantly, but instead he grabbed a gun and shot Gorbachev back and they both died.

Announcing the news, the channel said: “On 3August, South African viewers witnessed the death of two Scandal! veterans – Mamba and Gorbachev. They went head-to-head in a shootout no one ever expected.

“A work relationship that lasted over 20 years was filled with heartbreak and betrayal when Mamba found out Duma was not his son and Gorbachev was the father. An explosive exit episode filled with anger and rage left over 5,4 million viewers glued to the screen in utter disbelief about the surprise twist of events.”

The drama between the two, who were good friends, started when Mamba’s troublesome wife Boniswa (Lusanda Mbane) found out Duma (Wandile Molebatsi) wasn’t Mamba’s biological son, but Gorbachev’s.

Gorbachev was Mamba’s bodyguard many years ago and had an affair with Mamba’s first wife.

Boniswa went out of her way to prove that Duma really wasn’t Mamba’s son and told Mamba.

An angry Mamba tied both Gorbachev and Boniswa to chairs with a rope and went to kill Duma. Gorbachev was able to escape and arrived just in time to save Duma, before shooting Mamba.

The dramatic deaths left Duma confused, as he had just found out Gorbachev was his real father and he left him a lump sum of R1 million.

The channel promised that more drama was coming.

“With an ending like this – what could possibly be next? You won’t believe it … stay tuned for more,” it said.
