TOP Shangaan disco singer Chris Mkhonto, well known as General Muzka, is bringing back memories of the late Lucky Dube. The reggae musician was murdered in 2007 in Rosettenville, south of Joburg.

General will release a reggae song, Corruption, at the end of the month.

He said Dube was his role model and he used to imitate him when he started his music career in 1987 as a reggae vocalist for Soul Lovers in Bushbuckridge, Mpumalanga.

When you listen very closely you’ll hear elements of Dube’s melodies. He said this is his way of paying tribute to the late reggae legend.

“I was his big fan and this is my little contribution towards his legacy,” said General.

He said the song is about dishonesty in those in power.

“This causes the weakening of the economy and increases the gap between the rich and poor,” he said.

“There’s fraud and manipulation, not only in South Africa but throughout the world.

“There are no jobs because of corruption and the poor are the most affected. Through this song I want to put a stop to corruption.”

He’s worked with Stanley Chiloane, Kenny Khosa and Abdul Karim.

His song will be released as part of a 14-track album that is not yet titled.

The album will also have a song about Covid-19.
