News anchor Shahan Ramkissoon had tweeps worried after sharing that there’s a possible hit against him.

The eNCA newsreader said on social media on Sunday night, 13 June, he’d received a text from someone warning him a hit had been put on him.

“I’ve just received texts from someone saying they’ve been approached at a hostel to carry out a hit on me,” he wrote on Twitter.

“He says it’s linked to my job and that I must watch my back wherever I go.

“I’m not sure if this is a real threat or a scam, but how can I possibly live like this.”

When the SunTeam reached out to him, he said he’d open a case at the police station. But he isn’t sure whether it’s a scam or not.

“I’m opening a case tomorrow. And the office will then decide on the next move with legal. At this stage it looks like a scam, but if it’s anything more I’ll let you know,” said Shahan.

The channel’s marketing manager, Samu Dube, said they were aware of the text Shahan received, but they couldn’t do much about it.

“At this stage there’s nothing we can do or take action against. All we’ve done is report it to the police. We can’t open a case, but we’ve at least reported it,” she said.

People on his comment section were worried about him and advised him to be safe and report the matter.

But some were telling him not to worry because it might be a scam from someone who will ask for money next.

Twitter user Lettuce Mathebula said: “It’s so sad. It may not be true but it’s worrying if we’re to live in a country where doing a job becomes a problem for others. Just be safe but never ever afraid to do your job. May you stay safe and protected,” he wrote.

“Now this is how low we get! We’re gonna kill journalists for doing their jobs. Sies man. Don’t be deterred. Push harder. You’re doing a great job,” wrote Bongumusa Mabik2.

“Don’t take this lightly. Report the matter to the police. Sharpen your alertness and security, change your regular patterns, inform your employer in writing,” wrote another user, Christo Thurston.
