BORN and raised in the dusty streets of Steenbok in Komatipoort, Mpumalanga, Innocent “Innomash” Mashaba (37) says he won’t stop pushing stand-up comedy forward.
The professional banker and father of three, who is married to fellow comedian Nomcebo Mashaba, now lives in Hazyview.
He’s been hustling as a stand-up comedian, actor and programme director since 2016.
His clean comedy also brought him life-changing performances, including being a programme director for Mpumalanga Gospel Awards, voice-over artist for various gospel awards.
He has also acted on shows such as Imfihlo, Impilo and Kantsi Ngenteni.
He is currently directing and acting on a new Mpumalanga sitcom, titled Inspiration
“While I have been doing programme directing since 2009 making jokes, I knew nothing about comedy until 2016. Comedian JustSam Mkhabela called me to perform during his annual show, Holy Comedy.”
He said after performing, many doors started opening for him.
“I then started doing corporate gigs, government events, comedy shows, graduations and weddings. When times are tough, I also take on baby showers and funeral events.

“I didn’t study anything related to film or media. The natural gift I have is the one making room for me. For me to be where I am today, I had to be at the right place, at the right time and with the right people.”
He said in the industry, it was impossible to make it on your own.
“You need people to coach and mentor you. I am lucky to have comedians such as Oscar Mabunda , Bongani Piano, Jordan Sipho and my wife to play that role.”
Innomash has dreams of seeing himself directing his own sitcoms and films.
“I also want to help kids believe in themselves and have confidence by starting a comedy academy.”
