THE UN Chamber Music Society of the United Nations Staff Recreation Council is set to host a concert to celebrate Nelson Mandela Day.

The concert, which will also honour African heritage, will be held virtually on Sunday, 18 July at 3pm.

This will be done by featuring compositions by extraordinary black composers who changed the course of classical and pop music history, including multi-Grammy award winning composer Billy Childs, and Pulitzer Prize winning composer George Walker.

“In recognition of the former South African president’s contribution to the culture of peace and freedom, Nelson Mandela International Day recognises his values and dedication to the service of humanity in the struggle for democracy internationally, and the promotion of a culture of peace throughout the world,” read a statement from Muthaland on behalf of the chamber.

Nelson Mandela’s grandson, Ndaba Mandela who is also the founder and chairman of Mandela Institute for Humanity, will give opening remarks for the concert.

The concert will also be live streamed in New York while being broadcast in Mzansi on the UN Web TV Facebook and YouTube pages. It will also be broadcast on the UN Web TV website.
