Late jazz pioneer Hugh Masekela died at the age of 78 after a courageous nine-year battle with prostate cancer.

Bra Hugh’s talent was recognised and honoured internationally over many years.

He kept the torch of freedom alive globally and fought apartheid through his music.

He mobilised international support for the struggle for liberation and raised awareness of the evils of apartheid.

In 2010, Bra Hugh received the National Order of Ikhamanga in gold for his exceptional contribution to music and the struggle against apartheid.

After hearing about the death of this giant of music, fans and friends across the globe filled social media with heartfelt condolences.

They recalled his massive contribution to the country’s political struggle through his craft.

Lala kahle, qhawe lamaqhawe.
