HE has been in the music industry for 11 years, but had never received any award. And his dream has always been to get awarded and recognised for his music, but that has never happened.
But all this changed over the weekend when his dream finally came true.
Mthandazo Gatya received a Metro FM Music Award for Best R&B Song.
He's best known for his song, Senzeni, which became a local hit, getting millions of views after a short period.
Mthandazo rose to fame in 2010 when he received a prize on the TV show, Jam Alley. He also gained popularity when he collaborated with American singer, John Legend.
The 34-year-old from the Eastern Cape told Daily Sun he has been waiting for this moment all his career.
“It’s been a long time coming. I have been consistent, I’ve put in so much hard work in this craft and I have been patient with myself and God. It eventually paid off. I am really happy,” he said.

Mthandazo said things were different this time around after he was previously nominated but didn't win.
“I could feel it seeing how much work I put in and how busy my team was,” he said.
He said he has strong faith.
“It’s good to see your hard work recognised. My journey is driven by faith, so I'm that guy who believes there are bigger and better things coming for me,” he said.
Mthandazo said that his journey in the industry hasn’t been smooth.
“Most young black people relate to my story. I had challenges with support from my family because they thought I am crazy and lazy. I have faced rejection as well, but all that helped me build this strong character,” he said.
