THE nominees for the first annual South African Amapiano Awards have been announced.
The announcement for the awards, aimed at honouring achievers in the popular genre, took place on social media on Tuesday, 20 July.
According to the organisers, amapiano genre has transformed into one of Mzansi’s biggest musical exports.
“Therefore, the decision to come up with a dedicated awards show for the genre that would recognise its most notable achievers was inevitable,” they said in a statement.

They said that another reason for the awards was because the genre was still not adequately honoured at huge award ceremonies.
“It therefore came as a shock to many when categories in the prominent award ceremonies in the country were not dominated by amapiano artists. This is despite the yanos leading in terms of fan base and numbers on social medias. This is why the governing body of the inaugural awards decided to come up with a ceremony to specifically celebrate the genre, and we couldn’t be more excited about finally having an official Yanos Awards Show.”
The winners will receive R10 000 each, with the exception of Amapiano Song of the Year awarded R50 000.
