FOR years, there have been rumours that maskandi group Amageza Amahle’s fans wanted the leader to be replaced by the late Mtshengiseni Gcwensa’s son.

It has now emerged that group leader Potso ‘Commander’ Ngobese and the rest of the members have decided to form a new group called Commander NeNsimbi.

Amageza Amahle was formed by Mtshengiseni in 2004. When he died in 2015, Potso took over but he changed the group’s sound. This led to rumours that fans wanted Mtshengiseni’s son Siphesihle to take over to bring back the old sound.

Potso confirmed to Daily Sun that he and the rest of the members left the group but denied it was due to pressure from Mtshengiseni’s fans.

“I made the decision because it was time to make my own name. I’m going with all the group members. There is no war between me and the group’s fans but it is better to be independent. I still love Amageza Amahle and I hope someone will come to lead it and continue flying Mtshengiseni’s name high. I informed the Gcwensa family before I left the group,” he said.

Potso said he planned to release new songs in December and a full album in 2022.

“I will not change our unique sound,” he said.

Siphesihle said he was still too young to lead such a legendary group.
