KAIZER Chiefs are embarking on a massive rebuilding programme for next season!
Amakhosi have suffered badly this season mainly due to the two consecutive Fifa transfer window ban.
But now that the ban has ended, the club are desperate to strengthen their squad that has struggled both domestically and on the continent.
Chiefs’ scouts have been travelling countrywide to watch matches in the DStv Premiership and also in the GladAfrica Championship to identify new talent, as well as being in touch with player agents elsewhere.
And top of Amakhosi’s wish list is Uthongathi FC’s highly-regarded midfielder, Saziso Magawana.
Magawana is not the only player Chiefs are interested in as coach Gavin Hunt is set to overhaul the squad.
The Soweto giants are expected to sign up to 15 players next season, according to a list which has been seen by SunSport.
Chiefs are also interested in Thabo Nodada and Taariq Fielies from Cape Town City.
City are aware that Nodada is likely to leave the Cape club at the end of this season.
The Mother City club have made plans to replace him with free agent Keagan Buchanan, who recently left Maritzburg United.
According to SunSport sources, Chiefs have made an inquiry about Magawana, but they face strong competition from their Soweto rivals counterparts Orlando Pirates, TS Galaxy and AmaZulu.
Galaxy boss Tim Sukazi apparently made a call about the 22-year-old who has turned heads with some great performances in the Championship.
“There’s a huge interest in Magawana,” said an insider.
“Chiefs want to sign the player, but Pirates also called the player’s agent after Uthongathi played against Bucs in the Nedbank Cup last-32. AmaZulu coach Benni McCarthy went as far as going to watch their game against Richards Bay in Umhlathuze Sports Ground with his chief scout Ayanda Mkhize,” revealed the insider.
Chiefs are also concerned about their veteran goalkeepers, Itumeleng Khune (33) and Daniel Akpeyi (34) and are considering long-term replacements for the duo.
