I t’s surprising that Minister Fikile Mbalula’s 100-day commitment has passed, yet there’s still no improvement in how trains between Joburg and Tshwane operate.
Actually, Mbalula must tell us who is in charge of the so-called war room in Germiston. This Prasa nerve centre, launched last month, promised an end to commuter train service problems.
It’s been more than three months now since trains started using only one lane between Olifantsfontein and Tshwane. This causes delays of up to one hour.
Paying commuters are greatly inconvenienced as they have to use taxis. Every day, ordinary workers have to live with the pain of getting warnings at work because of late trains.
Trains are the worst public transport one can think of in this country. Mbalula needs to stop talking too much and tell commuters what he’s done over the 100 days of his political oversight.
He must allow engineers to give feedback on the status of trains and establish a reliable Metrorail app to provide accurate information on trains 24/7.

- Our minister of transport says he’ll fall on his own sword if he doesn’t fix the rail transport system. Let’s hope he is, in fact, a man of his word. This letter wins R200 today. Call Nthabiseng at out offices to collect. – Deputy Editor
