OVER the weekend, Police Minister, Bheki Cele revealed that most criminals and izinkabi are from his home province, KZN.
He said this during an imbizo at the University of Joburg (UJ) Soweto campus on Saturday, 13 April.
The community engagement aimed to address serious and violent crimes that impact communities and the police’s response to criminality.
Family gets justice
The family of a woman who was killed in her house in Protea Glen, Soweto in 2022 can breathe a sigh of relief. This after the man it is believed killed her and her six-year-old son was arrested after almost two years.
The man allegedly set alight Sandra Mabaso (41) by burning down the main bedroom where he had allegedly locked her in.
Slain cop laid to rest
The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) officer who was allegedly shot and killed by an South African Police Service (SAPS) officer was laid to rest on Saturday, 13 April. The family of the slain JMPD cop has criticised the conduct of the SAPS following Nombulelo Mthimkhulu's death.
They called for harsh measures in handling the case while disputing the police's version of events.

“What the media wrote about this incident is not the right version. They wrote that a JMPD woman was outraged. The sad thing is, that's a blatant lie.
“My mum died doing what she had promised to do for the rest of my life, which is protecting me." Yolo Mthimkhulu said during his mother's funeral.
Ramaphosa goes door-to-door
President Cyril Ramaphosa embarked on a campaign trail that started with a door-to-door in Cosmo City, north of Jozi on Saturday, 13 April.
“I've been told that Zandspruit is the home of the ANC. Since 1994, the ANC has been prepared to work for the people, bring development in communities, and change their lives,” he said.
Ramaphosa said he had been going around checking if ANC leaders were doing their work.
Slain teacher laid to rest
Friends, pupils and other mourners turned up in numbers to bid farewell to murdered school teacher, Palesa Mofokeng who was laid to rest at Unitaspark Memorial Park in Vereeniging on Saturday, 13 April.
Palesa (33), who was a teacher at Riverside High School, was shot more than eight times on Friday morning, 5 April on her way to work.

Her ex-husband and three other suspects were arrested on the same day in connection with her murder. They appeared in court on Monday, 8 April.
Nsfas drama continues
Higher Education Minister, Dr Blade Nzimande said the decision to dissolve the outgoing National Student Financial Aid Scheme (Nsfas) board is based on the inability to implement the required services.
Briefing the media on Sunday, 14 April, Nzimande said: “Through various former engagements as minister, I have consistently raised my concerns and unhappiness with the outgoing Nsfas board, their inability or failure for Nsfas to carry out some of their basic responsibilities allocated to it in terms of the act."
