A COURT in Thabazimbi, Limpopo recently sentenced a 33-year-old man to 30 years imprisonment for rape.

Limpopo police spokesman Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said it was found that on 20 January 2022 around 2.30pm the accused, who was a tenant at the victim’s residence, raped the landlord's daughter while she was at work.

“The victim, aged 13, informed her mum telephonically following the ordeal. Her mum quickly rushed home,” Ledwaba said.

He said the incident was reported to the police and a rape case was registered.

“The docket was transferred to the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit at Thabazimbi and was investigated by Warrant Officer Daniel Joseph Lotter,” he said.

He said the suspect was later arrested for rape.

“Following trial appearances, the accused, William Kgankge Sekete (33) was sentenced to 30 years in prison and declared unfit to possess a firearm. He will be registered on the national sexual offenders' register,” he said.

Limpopo police commissioner Lieutenant-General Thembi Hadebe welcomed the final decision by the court and applauded the investigating officer and the team for a job well done.
