accreditation

A JOBURG Metro Police Department (JMPD) officer is fighting for his life in hospital after being hit by a car on the Golden Highway in Orange Farm on this morning, 23 October.

The JMPD spokesman, Xolani Fihla, said officers were conducting a stop and search when traffic cop Aubrey Mufundhisi Muhuvuza was hit by a silver grey Mitsubishi Colt bakkie.

“The driver of the bakkie failed to stop and drove away after crashing into the officer,” said Fihla.

Officers on the scene gave chase after the bakkie.

“Whilst searching, the bakkie was found abandoned along Mbatha Street in Orange Farm Extention 1 and the driver was not found,” said Fihla.

He also said paramedics were immediately called to the accident scene and upon their arrival, they informed the other officers that officer Muhuvuza had just encountered a life-threatening situation.

“Officer Muhuvuza had to be airlifted to Milpark Hospital. He is said to be in stable condition with a left leg fracture and was taken to the medical ward for observation,” said Fihla.
