PRESIDENT Cyril Ramaphosa expressed shock at the severe sewage spillage in the streets of Nomzamo township in Strand, Cape Town.
The visit was part of his campaign trail across Cape Town's kasis ahead of the elections scheduled for 29 May.
Addressing ANC supporters at the Nomzamo Community Hall on Saturday, 4 May, Ramaphosa highlighted the dire state of sanitation in the area.
"Kak is flowing all over the streets. This is because the municipality is failing to deliver services to the people. The municipality must fix all these things but it’s failing. I've been told the pipes are too old and should be removed. Money is there but they don’t use it," said Ramaphosa as the crowd cheered.
During his visit, a resident shared with Ramaphosa that the bad smell also makes their delicious meals taste like kak.

The President urged the community to vote for the ANC, promising job opportunities for all, including those over 35 years old who have been historically overlooked in employment initiatives.
“We want our people to get jobs. When we talk about jobs, some people think we're looking at people between 18 to 35. Even those who are 35 or older must get jobs. They must be trained to make them fit into the economy,” said Ramaphosa.
Over the weekend, Ramaphosa's campaign trail led him to several kasis, including Langa, Philippi and Strand.
He also visited a factory in Wolseley in the Boland region, operated by Belgian investors, which employs over 700 workers.
Ramaphosa assured residents of further investments in the country to boost job creation, advocating for continued support for the ANC to deliver on its promises for jobs.
