MPUMALANGA Police in Tonga recovered three stolen vehicles during routine patrols in two separate incidents on Wednesday, 30 November at Mangweni.

According to Brigadier Selvy Mohlala, the vehicles recovered in the first incident – two Toyota GD6 bakkies – were reportedly stolen in Hartbeespoort in the North West and Brooklyn, Pretoria in Gauteng, respectively.

Mohlala said in a separate incident, Tonga police recovered a Ford Ranger Raptor, also reported stolen in Ekurhuleni.

“In both incidents, the drivers of the vehicles have managed to evade arrest but police have since detained a 34-year-old local male for questioning on suspicion that he was escorting the Ford Ranger Raptor, driving in a VW Polo,” Mohlala said in a statement.

Meanwhile, the Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela, said police in the province will do their best to intercept the free movement of stolen vehicles.

Manamela further said more efforts will be put in place to get those behind the smuggling of stolen vehicles out of the country.
