AFTER a brief break in 2022, gospel maskandi singer Bongani Maduna (39) from Umkhomazi, southern KZN, has announced his return to the music scene.
Bongani, known for his hit Makhelwane Wami, decided to step back from his music career due to numerous challenges, including being overlooked by event organisers and radio stations.
In an interview with Daily Sun, Bongani shared that his fans played a big role in his comeback.
He said his followers, who previously bought his music during street sales, vowed to continue their support.

“I didn't want to but because they always say the same thing then when they see me, I realised that I have what I have because of them,” he said.
Bongani recently released a new single, titled Ngikhathele. He said he's working on an EP set to be released on 5 May.
His album, Ngibhizi, launched in 2022, was well-received, yet he chose to take a break from the music industry.
Bongani, who was set apart by his unique blend of maskandi and gospel music, said another challenge that led him to stop his music career to focus on the business side was that some of the event organisers were unfaithful.
However, his passion for offering fans a unique musical experience has led him back to gospel maskandi.
"I began my career in gospel music in 2009 and later shifted to maskandi because I noticed that maskandi has big support. I noticed that many musicians were imitating the late Mgqumeni Khumalo then I started my own tune to make me different from them,” he said.
