Nissan added some x-factor shine to its X-Trail!
This popular sport utility vehicle had a bit of a makeover to strengthen its appeal in this very competitive market.
SUVs are big business for Nissan as its arsenal also includes the Juke, Qasqai and Patrol, while a new compact crossover, the Kicks, is apparently also on the cards for South African shores.
Appearances are everything when it comes to SUVs and the latest X-Trail’s facelift doesn’t disappoint at all. The most eye-grabbing changes are reserved for the front where the new V-Motion grille and bumper, revised headlights and jazzy daytime running lights are placed.
The front also features integrated fog lights while the rear has new, curved LED boomerang tail lights and the rear bumper has been freshened.
There are new alloy wheel designs and a number of new colours choices too.
Nissan has also upgraded the X-Trail’s cabin with an upmarket design featuring new styles for the door finishes and the console surface, with a plusher material for the seats. Models with leather seats get white stitching and it has a D-shaped steering wheel.
The console centre and lid have also been improved, while the NissanConnect touchscreen display with satellite navigation system now features a new, more user-friendly interface.
It also comes with the technology such as blind spot monitoring, automatic emergency braking, potential collision warning, automatic high-low beam headlights and what Nissan calls an “intelligent around view monitor”, which allows drivers to park more easily by having a better view of the area surrounding their vehicle.
As before, entry-level X-Trails get Nissan’s naturally aspirated 2,0-litre petrol engine which is slightly more powerful that’s fitted with a six-speed manual gearbox that sends power to the front wheels.
Next up is the 1,6 turbodiesel engine. In its seven-seater layout, this model is front-wheel driven while a more luxurious 4x4 version, fitted with five seats, is also on offer.
Both come with six-speed manual gearboxes.
The range-topping engine is the 2,5-litre naturally aspirated petrol unit, which is only available as a 4X4 drive fitted with an automatic gearbox.
It comes standard with five seats but there are options that can increase it to seven seats if needed.
All models come with a six-year/150 000km warranty and a three-year/90 000km service plan.
Prices for the third generation Nissan X-Trail range between R369 900 and R469 900.
