LOCALS are heading for the Aldo Scribante Raceway in Nelson Mandela Bay to see some hot racing car action.
The Engen Xtreme Team believes they have an advantage as the Sasol GTC Africa heads to Port Elizabeth for round five of the championship on Saturday.
Engen Xtreme Team drivers Michael Stephen and Simon Moss currently lie second and third respectively in the race for championship honours.
The duo are sure that their knowledge of their home track will help them close the gap between them and race leader, Gennaro Bonafede.
“Racing Port Elizabeth’s Aldo Scribante is a highlight on the national calendar for the Xtreme Team,” said Terry Moss, team principal of Terry Moss Racing.
“Simon and Michael enjoy racing in front of their home supporters.”
Defending GTC Africa champion Stephen has bounced back from a challenging start to the season. He takes his Engen Xtreme Audi A3 to Scribante fresh from overall victory at Zwartkops and as winner of four of the last five races.
Stephen’s comeback sees him needing to score just 59 points to match Bonafede’s current tally. There are 50 points for each race win, with two races at each event.
Stephen’s Xtreme Team teammate, Simon Moss lies 35 points further back and is well placed at Bonafede’s lead.
Moss’ many challenges at Zwartkops in the previous round broke an otherwise encouraging performance. However, he still produced two consistent fifth place finishes on the day, despite the various hurdles trying to trip him up.
The Xtreme Team will face a challenging race day as they navigate the narrow Aldo Scribante circuit. Cheered on by their hometown fans, Stephen and Moss will be looking to make their intent to win known as GTC Africa nears the end of the season.
