Volkswagen has improved its Polo range with a sexy new model!
The new Polo R-Line comes with a tiny 1,0-litre turbopetrol engine – but don’t let its size fool you as nothing about it offers a boring performance.
The introduction of the 1,0 TSI engine in the Polo is part of Volkswagen South Africa’s small engine strategy.
This little three-cylinder unit is also expected to be included as standard in the new Golf upgrades, which should also be due here in the next few months.
Power delivery for this turbo engine is decent. It enables the new Polo, which comes with a seven-speed automatic gearbox, to move from zero to 100km/h in a 9,3-second sprint up to a limited top speed of 197km/h.
This is also the first Polo version to be offered with the eye-catching exterior R-Line package, which adds a definite sporty look and makes the car stands out on the road.
Design highlights include an R-Line logo on the radiator grille, front and rear bumpers, sill extensions, a sporty rear diffuser with an integrated chrome exhaust tailpipe, a rear spoiler in the body colour and 17-inch alloy wheels.
Inside, it is big on comfort and safety features too, and it comes with items such as five-inch colour multimedia system display, a Bluetooth connection, a steering wheel with multifunction controls, air conditioning and front foglights.
Naturally, it has all the necessary safety items as well.
The Polo R Line comes with a price tag of R290 200, which includes a three-year/45 000km service plan and three-year/120 000km warranty.
Did you know that over 155 600 Polo hatch body variants have been sold in South Africa since its launch in February 2010? The popularity of Polo is backed by its numerous awards – including the 2011 South African Car of the Year.
