BIG cars are not known to be light on petrol.
But John Khumalo from Pimville zone 7, Soweto, says he has a plan B.
“Petrol is not a problem. If I do not have enough petrol to drive somewhere, I use one of my other cars to take me wherever I want to go.”
John told us about his 2003 model Range Rover.
Q: When did you buy the car?
A: I bought it three years ago.
Q: Is this your first car?
A: No, this is my 10th car.
Q: Why do you love it?
A: It’s lovely, very big and classy. It is convenient, has space and its performance is out of this world. It takes me anywhere I want to go without any problems.
Q: Is this your dream car?
A: Not really. My dream car is the Range Rover sport. I am planning to buy that car before the end of this year, but I still love this one very much.
Q: What features do you love the most?
A: I love all of them including the parking sensors, DVD player, electric windows, sunroof and all the others.
Q: Is there anything you would like to change?
A: No, it is perfect as it is. But if ever I change anything it will be the mag wheels.
Q: Does it have a pet name?
A: Yes, people call my car “Baas John” because of its big body.
Q: Why did you choose it in silver?
A: I love silver – it’s my favourite colour.
Q: Have you travelled long distances in your car?
A: Yes, it has already taken me to Cape Town, Durban and Bloemfontein.
Q: How often do you get traffic fines?
A: I don’t get fines because I respect the rules of the road.
Q: What music is playing in your car?
A: I play only R’n B music. Sometimes I tune in to FM radio to listen to current affairs.
Q: Would you allow anyone else to drive it?
A: No, I am the only driver of my car. No one but me is allowed to drive my wheels. People wouldn’t respect it the same way that I do.
Q: What do you think of other drivers on Mzansi’s roads?
A: People drive differently all over Mzansi, but the worst are those who drive as if they own the road.
My message to all South African drivers is that if we should all drive cautiously. That way we won’t only be doing ourselves a favour, but saving lives as well.
Drinking and driving should not be allowed and must be stopped.
