THE FACTS
AFTER Frans Masola from Soshanguve, Tshwane was involved in an accident, the Road Accident Fund paid him and gave him an agreement in 2001.
But he is not happy because he doesn’t understand how it works or what he should do.
Payment only started in 2008 and he ran up bills due to late payments.
WHAT I DID
I spoke to the fund for explanation and help.
SOLUTION
The agreement certificate was provided to Frans and its use explained to him.
A meeting was held between the fund and Frans during which the certificate was explained to him again.
Members of the fund suggested Frans should go to them again for help. As part of a settlement, the fund sometimes issues an undertaking certificate.
It shows how much the fund needs to pay for future medical treatment and related expenses.
The amount may be made less by any fault of the claimant in causing the accident.
Claimants have to submit claims for expenses to the fund.
If the fund does not pay in time, claimants can summons it within five years.
