THIS is not an average club – it’s a gathering with a noble cause.

It is the primary aim of the 20 members of Bermuda Social Club to save money, which is given back to them at the end of the year.

Bermuda’s chairman Eddie Mogajane (40) said that the club was just eight months old and was formed in January.

“We don’t only save money but also act as a forum where members can talk about their issues.”

The club members meet every Sunday at the chairman’s place in Soshanguve, north of Tshwane, and contribute R50 or more.

The money is then deposited into the club account.

At the end of the year, the money is divided according to each member’s savings.

After contributions, the members hold a gatherings where they host a talk.

“The main reason is to make sure that we encourage men to do right and refrain from domestic violence.”

Eddie said Bermuda has an important role to play in spreading good messages.

“Social clubs and stokvels don’t only have to be about parties.

“We must take advantage of the fact that this is where many people come together,” he said.
