A NEW show, A Taste of South Africa, will follow top British chef Matt Tebbutt as he travels across the country discovering and exploring local foods.
In the course of his journey, Tebbutt will sample regional specialties and find and explore food and drink rich with traditional heritage and culture. With his background in anthropology, Tebbutt looks at the history of South African food from its historic beginnings by cooking with locals and learning fascinating food stories.
The series appeals to both food lovers and travel buffs, and it promises to be informative and funny.
Rebecca Fuller-Campbell said South Africa provides an ideal, exciting, engaging and exquisite environment in which to pursue the love of food. The sheer variety of cultures means that every episode will be a fresh and different look into the rich gastronomic traditions of the country.
“Matt is so comfortable in front of the camera, and so naturally curious and engaging that he is the perfect host. South Africa is the perfect place to really combine the exploration of food and travel.”
Tebbutt said: “This is the show that I’ve always wanted to make. To explore, learn, taste and understand such a totally diverse country such as South Africa is a really exciting prospect.
“I want to meet the people behind the food, to learn about their rich history and culture, to drink, laugh and embrace life like they do.”
A Taste of South Africa will start shooting in early January and will be broadcast after June next year on a DStv channel still to be announced.
