INGREDIENTS
- 500ml self-raising flour
- 2ml salt
- 2ml cinnamon
- 500ml sugar
- 250g butter or margarine
- 250ml water
- 80ml cocoa powder
- 125ml buttermilk
- 2 eggs
- 5ml bicarbonate of soda
- 5ml vanilla essence
- 250g icing sugar
- 125ml cocoa powder
- 75g butter
- 80ml buttermilk
METHOD
- Preheat the oven to 180°C.
- Grease a deep oven dish or 20 x 30 cm roasting pan.
- Cake: Sift flour, salt and cinnamon and add sugar.
- Bring the butter or margarine, water and cocoa powder to boil. Leave to cool. Pour over the dry ingredients.
- Whisk eggs, buttermilk, bicarbonate of soda and essence. Add to the dry ingredients.
- Spoon batter into the pan. Bake for about 35 minutes.
- Topping: Heat ingredients until melted and well combined. Pour over the cake.
