THE Dlulani, Kobo and Goli families left the Mandela School of Science and Technology with their hands full of trophies won by their grade 12 kids.

Now Mkhuseli Dlulani, Loyiso Kobo and Sanele Goli stand a good chance of studying in Germany for three years, all expenses paid.

The three are top performers and part of the first matrics to come out of the state-of-the-art school, built in the late Nelson Mandela’s birthplace of Mvezo.

Madiba’s grandson and Mvezo chief, Mandla Mandela, as well as education MEC Mandla Makupula were joined by executives from IT company Siemens, which is the main sponsor of the school.

Parents ululated as the pupils received their awards during the prize-giving ceremony held in the school hall yesterday.

The school specialises in maths, physical science, engineering, graphic design, information technology, accounting and life sciences.

Rita Nkuhlu, executive director at Siemens, announced that they had three bursaries for the top performers to study electrical, chemical, as well as mechanical and mechatronic engineering.

“Two bursaries are for studies in Mzansi, while the main one will be to study in Berlin, Germany.

“From April next year the successful pupil willspend three months in Joburg to study German. Then in August they will leave for Germany to start their studies, which will take three and a half years,” said Nkuhlu.
