AFTER missing out in last year’s Sasol League National Championship, Cape Town Roses made a huge come back this year’s.
The Western Cape side will appear in their fourth final on Saturday after they thumped the hosts Coal City Wizards 4-0 at Kabokweni Stadium on Thursday. Roses will meet the reigning champions Bloemfontein Celtic Ladies in the final.
Celtic also booked their place with a 4-0 hammering Thunderbirds in the semi-finals.
The final is set to take place on Saturday, Kabokweni Stadium (3pm). The winner will walkaway with a whopping price of R200 000, which has been a huge motivation to the players this year.
In their three final appearances the Cape Town based outfit managed to win the tournament once in 2014 at Umlazi’s King Zwelithini Stadium.
Cesane twins, Sinoxolo and Noxolo who were marvelous to watch when the Roses clinch the title in KZN three years ago, they were influential even this year on their way to the final.
In 2015 they couldn’t defend their title as they lost to Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies in the final at Sasolburg.
Roses coach Xolile Madikana said: “This competition is always tough, and you could see our first match we were struggling, ended up playing a draw but we managed to make a come back on our second match.”
Madikana was full of praise for the Cesane twins who have been one of the greatest players for Roses following their breakthrough four years ago.
He said: “They have grown compared to 2013 when they made their debut in the Sasol League at the age of 13-years. They have done well but I’m happy they are team players.”
