IT WILL not be a barren season again!

That is the pledge two Kaizer Chiefs stars have made to their supporters ahead of the 2017-18 season.

Brilliant Khuzwayo and Lorenzo Gordinho insist Chiefs will not finish another season without a trophy.

Amakhosi have now gone two seasons without winning a single trophy – but the pair promise change.

They say it’s about time the Glamour Boys reclaim their glory days and that it will happen in the upcoming season.

Amakhosi will take on their arch-rivals Orlando Pirates in the Carling Black Label Champion Cup at a sold-out FNB Stadium on 29 July.

Gordinho, who was part of Bafana Bafana’s Cosafa Castle Cup squad that finished fifth and won the Plate final in North West earlier this month, said winning the Soweto derby would be a step in the right direction.

But winning the pre-season cup does not always guarantee a good season.

Gordinho said: “We have to win trophies for our fans. It’s not good when a team of Chiefs’ calibre can’t win anything. But we are determined to redeem ourselves by winning silverware. We will make our presence felt next season.

“We don’t want to measure our standards by this derby because last season we won it but lost our first league game and went on to struggle in our league campaign.”

Gordinho also believes new signings Bongolethu Jayiya, Philani Zulu and Teenage Hadebe will add value to the squad.

He said: “Jayiya had a great season with Cape Town City and scored lots of goals. We appeal to fans to have some patience with the new players.”

Gordinho expects the race for the league title to go down to the wire again: “I see us (Chiefs), Bidvest Wits, SuperSport United and Pirates fighting for the title until the last day of the season.”

He said Chiefs had to fix their defence and tighten up at the back to have a realistic chance of winning the league.

Khuzwayo, who struggled with injury and game-time last season, admitted he was competing with the best goalkeeper in the league. But he is optimistic his chance to be between the sticks will come.

Said Khuzwayo: “The team has to win a trophy next season. And although Itumeleng Khune is the best, I am sure my chance will come.”
