KAIZER Chiefs coach Steve Komphela has taken his search for a top class striker to a global level as he seeks a solution to their scoring problems.

Amakhosi have yet to win a match in any competition this season, which adds to the pressure on Komphela as he attempts to remedy the situation.

Chiefs suffered a 2-1 defeat to SuperSport United in an Absa Premiership match at FNB Stadium on Wednesday, having drawn their opener 1-1 with Bloemfontein Celtic away on Sunday.

The setback, coupled with the fact that SuperSport booted them from the MTN8 Cup, has rubbed salt into the wounds of Chiefs fans who have now gone two seasons without a trophy.

Said Komphela: “We are trying to sort out things and one of them is the striking department. We have two slots we intend to fill before the window closes (31 August).

“We will get this person who is going to help us. If not, there will be somebody who is good enough and has his clearance. Even if it’s after the 31st, we will go for them.”

Komphela emphasised that he wanted to get a prolific striker able to hit the ground running.

Amakhosi return to action after the Fifa break on 13 September against Cape Town City at Cape Town Stadium.

Added Komphela: “There are players we have targeted – we have gone through a list of 20 players. One player we are looking at is in Turkey, another in Greece, another in Sweden, South America, Europe, Africa. . . we want to make the right decisions.”

The outspoken mentor says he still respects the disgruntled fans who were chanting that “Steve must go”.

He explained: “There is one thing you cannot do, you don’t bite the hand that feeds you.

“You’ve got to give them utmost respect. If you have respect you will never say things that are reckless.”

Komphela insists he has signed quality players, not mediocre ones, to help achieve his goal of bringing silverwares to Naturena.

“New signings have been getting game-time. We had Dumisani Zuma who went to the national team – we only had one session with him. Ryan Moon is injured. Bhongolethu Jayiya has been playing – it was a question of selection in this game. Philani Zulu got a run and soon they will all be playing.”
