POLOKWANE CITY have parted ways with coach Julio Leal.

SunSport has reliably learnt Leal’s contract was not renewed by City boss, Johnny Mogaladi, as he failed to help the team improve the previous season’s position in the Absa Premiership.

The Limpopo-based outfit finished the 2015/16 season in 13th position, while they ended 2014/15 season in 12th position.

A close source to the club told SunSport City are trying to lure Chippa United coach, Dan Malesela, into their stable.

Malesela has done an incredible job as he guided the Chilli Boys to finish the season in sixth position during his first time in charge in the top flight.

Said the source: “Leal is not coming back to the club.

“He was given a single flight ticket to return home to Brazil, instead of a return ticket as per norm.

“The management are impressed with Malesela and they believe he can also get results at City with players who are not big names.”

Although, Malesela signed a three-year contract with Chippa in March, an insider at Chilli Boys revealed he’s not happy.

He replaced Roger Sikhakhane, who was suspended in December last year and then got a permanent position later.

Explained the source: “Malesela is not happy because Chippa owes him bonus and signing on fee.

“If the matter is not sorted out he could leave the club even though he is still contracted.

“Fifa rules states that if someone breaches a contract, the person who is betrayed is free to join a team of his choice.”

Malesela denied he’s talking to City nor owed money by Chippa.

He said: “I don’t know anything about the City coaching job.

“I’ve never been approached by the club. You have a lot of news that I don’t know about. I’m happy at Chippa and I have already started with preparations for the coming season.”

Mogaladi could not be reached for comment at the time of going to print as he didn’t answer his phone.
