MARITZBURG United captain Kurt Lentjies reckons the sky is the limit for the club now that they have an experienced head coach in Roger De Sa.
The former Bafana Bafana goal minder was unveiled on Tuesday by the club’s boss Farook Kadodia as the new mentor for the Team of Choice.
He took over from Ernst Middendorp who resigned in October last year, which saw Fadlu Davids and his bother Maahier take charge in the interim.
De Sa has already had two training sessions with his new lads and the captain of team is predicting good things to come.
“His trade record speaks volumes and there’s no doubt that we will learn a lot from him.
“He’s a world class coach with rich experience. People will now stop seeing us as relegation candidates.
“Things are looking good for us now that we have a coach of his caliber,” said Lentjies.
“There isn’t much to say in terms of his style of play. We only had two training sessions with him.
“But he did tell us that we are capable of achieving great things. He admitted that we are a work in progress and we also want to give him our full support. We can only get better from here.”
De Sa’s first test when the Absa Premiership resumes after a lengthy break on 8 February is an away trip to tricky Polokwane City.
The Team of Choice has already lost to City this season going down 1-0 at home, and this time they will have to try and get maximum points without their skipper.
Lentjies will be serving his two match suspension after receiving a red card against Bidvest Wits in the last match of the first round in December.
The skipper will also miss a crucial match at home against Kaizer Chiefs.
“That red card is water under the bridge. My focus now is on making sure that I’m working hard to be ready for the SuperSport United match.
“I know the guys will do well in my absence and I will be there to support them,” added Lentjies.
