In my mother tongue we have an old saying that goes: “Vusiwana byi chava mavoko.”
It means the only way to beat poverty is through hard work.
I am not a big fan of stereotypes, but I think most of our young people are lazy. We have become a group of people who blame the government for the poverty we face.
What I have discovered is that our young people lack self-esteem compared to the youth from other African countries.
They are not afraid to explore opportunities just to make a living. You will find businesses belonging to Nigerians, Somalis or Pakistanis while our youths sit around, doing nothing.
Mzansi youth, it’s time to wake up. Self-pity doesn’t pay the bills. Whatever you want in life, you need to sweat for it. There’s no need to wait for government to provide jobs for you. Do things for yourselves.
