In this world, where people put their interests first, I would like to salute a group of women from Hlalakahle Village in eManyeleti, Bushbuckridge.
These women, led by Reginah Mokone and Lindiwe Mnisi, have started an NGO that aims to look after young children who do not have parents or come from poor families.
What is commendable about these women is that they extend a helping hand out of love as they don’t get paid for doing this.
They are unemployed, yet they make an effort to provide food to vulnerable children donated by various Good Samaritans, and they offer moral support to empower them.
As I write this, they are working hard to get sponsors who will donate jerseys, socks and other clothing needed for winter.
Mother Teresa once said: “It is not how much we give but how much love we put into giving.”
I guess her remarks are echoed by the wonderful work of these women. By providing and taking care of these children, they are not only changing lives in their community but also giving hope to a hopeless child.
Children are the future and they deserve to be loved. Initiatives such as these should get funding from government and the private sector because they ensure nation-building.
I wish many communities would emulate this example and play their part in eliminating poverty.
By helping children today, we are shaping them to help others in the future while saving them from societal ills such as crime, drugs and gangsterism.
